REDEFINING ARTISTRY WITH PIECES BY BOTERO AND MARK EVANS
The St. Regis brand has been long revered for its impeccable taste in art, such as the iconic mural at the King Cole Bar of The St. Regis New York.
Immerse yourself in art at the hotel that boasts one of the best private art collections in Kuala Lumpur. The curated private art collection at The St. Regis Kuala Lumpur features special commissions of epic proportions, including a monumental horse sculpture by Maestro Fernando Botero at 3.6m tall, leather murals by Mark Evans depicting a powerful polo charge, and a three-dimensional Birds and Butterflies artwork by Barnaby Hosking, inspired by the leafy enclaves of the Lake Gardens.
The St. Regis Kuala Lumpur’s horse sculpture by Colombian artist, Fernando Botero, created in his signature style of Boterism, was specifically chosen for The St. Regis Kuala Lumpur because of its alluring personality. Botero’s exquisite art challenges proportions and presents a different perspective of still life paintings and sculptures. His art is exhibited throughout the world, and has garnered attention from art enthusiasts and connoisseurs worldwide.
A piece by another unique artist, Mark Evans, titled, Grace Thunders, was chosen for his ingenious technique of using a knife as his brush and leather as his canvas. Art by Mark Evans is truly one of kind and speaks for itself when viewed in the flesh, as the immense amount of talent needed to create an equestrian sport of polo action image onto leather is nothing short of mesmerising.
Birds & Butterflies by internationally acclaimed artist Barnaby Hosking features a wall of brass shapes plated in gold and chrome, which cast shadows of birds and butterflies under halogen lights. Designed to project the serene and uplifting feel of the Lake Gardens, the three storey installation has been revered as Barnaby Hosking’s most labour-intensive yet.
